IFAB was founded in 1886 and was created for the sole purpose of protecting the internationally used laws. IFAB is made up of reps from each of the United Kingdoms main football associations. These include England's, Scotland's, Wale's, and Northern Ireland's Irish Football Associations. FIFA was established in 1904 and owns 50% of the voting power. This means that when the whole board votes, FIFA has 4 votes while each UK association has 1. This means that IFAB does not need FIFA's vote because it only needs 3/4ths vote. But if FIFA can't change the Laws of the Game on their own, the need 2 UK association votes. the creation of IFAB and FIFA made soccer a world wide sport and gave it the funding and rules that it needed to grow into the popular sport it is today. |
