Women's soccer is rarely mentioned on this page and is always overpowered by the men's world of sports, so, lets talk about a key player in the world of women's soccer.
Carli Lloyd is a U.S national team player as well as a key player on the Houston Dash. On a major national women's soccer league (NWSL) game against rival team Orlando Pride she got injured in the first five minutes. Although she was injured in the fifth minute, Lloyd continued to play until the fourteenth minute. After that she was spotted on the bench icing her knee.
Paige Santee, a soccer player and Houston Dash fan says, " I was watching the game live and didn't see the actual injury but when I saw her icing her knee I knew something was wrong."
An MRI scan has confirmed Lloyd's injury as a medial collateral ligament or MCL sprain. The MCL is a band of tissue on the inside of your knee that connects your thighbone to the bone of your lower leg. Obviously a very important part of the knee, especially for a soccer player!
The recovery time for this injury is three to six weeks so hopefully she will be back in time to start the national women's team Olympic gold medal campaign in August. Lloyd expressed her frustration with the injury and of course hopes to be back as soon as possible.
